English Pocket Opera Company was founded in 1993 and, since 2001, has worked solely for the benefit of children and young people. Working with up to 50,000 children per year, it produces musically-driven, multi-disciplinary programmes in partnership with a range of social, artistic and educational organisations that are: tailored to individual needs of schools and communities; designed to achieve broad educational and social impact; and build capacity for long-term sustainability.

EPOC’s signature project is SingFest of which Carmen – the choice of Don Jose – is a part. Together with massed choirs of children, EPOC has performed Carmen in a wide range of venues and formats – at the Royal Albert Hall, in Bermuda, on St. Pancras Station, in Bosnia Herzegovina, at Bestival – and as part of Opera Blocks in 55 of the United Learning schools up and down the country.

For over 15 years EPOC has operated nationally and in partnership with many organisations (incl. the British Council, Central St. Martin’s, Trinity College of Music, London College of Fashion, English National Opera and the Royal Opera House) and Music Services across the country (incl. over 20 London Boroughs, Herts, Somerset, Cambs, Wilts, Essex). EPOC is a member of several ‘Hub’ partnerships with LEA Music Services in London and beyond.
